Our
Projects

The Purcell Initiative is dedicated to improving the quality of life and economy in North Bend by undertaking projects that enhance the town's appeal to both residents and businesses. With a focus on the future, it strives to create a welcoming and thriving community for all.

Expressway Sign

The four-lane Highway 30 expressway moved the highway out of North Bend and put it a mile to the north. The Purcell Initiative knew North Bend had to mark its spot on the new highway with a sign that will serve as the porch light above the town's front door. Purcell raised $90,000 with generous contributions from the City of North Bend, North Bend Area Chamber of Commerce, North Bend Area Community Foundation, Fremont Area Community Foundation. There is currently a drive under way to raise the final portion of the money to have the sign built in the fall of 2024.  Find out more about this project.

Community Survey - Results Dec. 16

The Purcell Initiative, in cooperation with the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District and the City of North Bend, conducted a community attitute survey in the fall of 2024. Results of the survey will inform and direct future projects of Purcell, including an effort to build a new community center. The results of the survey will be shared with the public Dec. 16 with town hall meeting at the North Bend Public Library at 5:30.

Downtown Lamp Posts

The Purcell Initiative brought the people from the City of North Bend and OPPD together into the room that led to the City placing antique-style street lights in downtown North Bend.

Downtown Sidewalks

The Purcell Initiative fought to give downtown businesses the option of paving new sidewalks when half the sidewalk was being replaced during the Main Street construction in 2023. After numerous calls and negotiations with state officials, businesses were able to pave their own sidewalks.
